Daily Gratitude - No Same Person Walks the Same Path...Not Even Yourself.

No same water flows through the same river. No same person walks the same path. Not even yourself.

We can come back to visit the same spot of a river; the same spot at the peak of the mountain; walk the same path everyday, but yet, the water that flows past you, the dirt beneath your shoes, the you stepping on the pavement, are all not the same from when you last visited.

I make this 20-25 minute walk around my office between 2-5 times a week, for the 2 years I've been at this office.  I can assure you that I am not the same Lily from a month ago, a year ago.  My spirit, my higher self as some refers to, remains loving, kind and bright; however, that human part of me, filled with triggering emotions, judging characteristics and impulsive personalities, hopefully has soften as time passes.

There's a saying I've heard before, if you want to become the person that you want to become, you have to be that person you want to become NOW. Not tomorrow, not next year, not in the future. Now.

Indeed yes, we all have a past. We all have circumstances, histories that we cannot change and we are who we are because of it.  At the same time, is it fair for us to remain who we are from the past?  Is it fair to ourselves that we give the control of what influences, affects and triggers us to a situation, a word, an action, a behavior from someone else?

Certainly there is nothing harder than the impromptu surfacing of trauma, emotions, memories, visions, voices. To overcome these, to transcend over these is more difficult, challenging and laborious than moving a mountain.  But my late brother has this written on a whiteboard in his room, which still remains:

"Because you find a thing very difficult, do not at once conclude that no man can master it. But whatever you observe proper and practicable by another, believe likewise within your own power."
- Marcus Aurelius -
I use to say this to an older ex co-worker:  No matter how simple the task may be, but if you tell yourself or believe that it is hard and difficult, then it will most certainly be hard and difficult.  No matter how complicated and challenging the task may be, but if you tell yourself or believe that it is easy and achievable, then it will most certainly be easy and achievable.
Isn't there another saying: Life doesn't get easier, we just become stronger.
